Data Replication (DataKeeper)

Data replication is the process of mirroring business-critical data between hosts in order to provide redundancy. These hosts can be located within the same data centre, or separated geographically to provide protection against disasters that may take the data centre out of service. DataKeeper operates in real-time to ensure that most recent data is available for recovery, overcoming a severe limitation of traditional tape-based data backup solutions which may have limited recovery to the previous day's data. DataKeeper also operates in various replication modes (sync and async) and implements sophisticated algorithms for data compression and bandwidth usage - ideal for sending data across WANs and providing even higher levels of protection.

High Availability (LifeKeeper)

High availability is the process used to mitigate problems caused by the loss of data by sharing information, so as to ensure consistency between redundant resources and improving reliability and accessibility. In most cases, companies will use various means to make copies of data to have a redundant or backup copy available if needed. Then, when the primary data resource is unavailable for any reason, the backup copy can be used to restore the primary data resource to that point in time when the data was backed up. The decision that IT organisations need to make is whether the last point-in-time backup of the information is good enough to meet the organisation's operational requirements for business continuity.
